Artist Statement
Alison Vasey is an oil painter focused on capturing the transient light effects across land and seascapes. She creates beautiful atmospheric work inspired by walks in Peak District and beyond. “I am fascinated by the changing light and atmosphere, and how a ‘glimpse’ of the effect and emotion evoked can be captured in paint.”
The landscapes of Derbyshire, North Norfolk, Cornwall and Scotland have been the inspiration for her work so far and she also enjoys still life and figurative disciplines.
She uses traditional oil painting techniques, working en plein air, and in her studio. Sketches and photographs inform her work.
Alison is predominantly self-taught and has loved drawing from a young age. She has exhibited at the Green Man Gallery in Buxton, taken part in the New Mills Art Trail since 2016 and held an Open Studio as part of Derbyshire Open Arts since 2017. She is a member of High Peak Artists and her work can also be seen at the Gallery in the Gardens at Buxton Pavilion Gardens.
