Artist Statement

I make things using antler, combining it with wood, stone, silver, and gold leaf to create sculptural forms, containers and jewellery. I love working with antler as it's unlike any other material - the tools and techniques are borrowed from wood engraving, metalworking and jewellery making. Mainly I use red deer antler from Scotland, but I also use reindeer antler from Lapland, and sometimes other types of antler and bone. I look at the carving cultures of Northern Canada and New Zealand, but try and find my own style of expression to make something unique and beautiful. I like simple lines that bring elegance to something that's very earthy.

I also cast natural objects in silver and bronze, mainly from natural objects like acorns and twigs.

What I'm working on at the moment is combining carved antler with hand-worked silver. The theme that binds all together is the Wildwood - the deer, the trees, and our connection with nature.
