Artist Statement

I spent my formative years in rural Lincolnshire, surrounded by vast skies, weather and solitude. The visual language I use is deeply influenced by my youth, a love of dramatic landscapes and their sense of place.

Travel is an essential part of my practice, so I can spend time in many of Britain’s remote destinations to paint and draw in the open air. Locations of special significance are Pembrokeshire, Malvern Hills, North Norfolk and Derbyshire.

I am interested in the use of art as a vehicle for expressing emotions and how the line between the pictorial and abstract can be blurred, creating a new exciting world of colour that escapes from the weight of modernity and the mundane. Working mainly with acrylics, I construct complex layers of translucent paint to arrive at a desired destination.

I studied for my B.A (Hons) at Coventry University and gained a PG Cert in Fine Arts Practice from the University of Derby. I have also been a guest Artist at the Kunstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral in Germany, Stiwdio Maelor in North Wales and have had many exhibitions here in the UK. I'm currently working on new works for future exhibitions.
