Artist Statement

Barbara and Graham work at their studio at home in Wirksworth, Derbyshire making kiln formed glass and ceramics. Living on the edge of the Peak District and the Derbyshire Dales gives them inspiration to create work from the beautiful scenery, landscape and skies.

Barbara started making fused glass as a hobby after retiring from full time work. She is mainly self taught but has attended short courses and recently an advanced course in landscapes and seascapes by the renowned glass artist, Claire Hall.

Graham has been making ceramics as a hobby for over forty years. He is largely self taught, but attended the LTW Ceramics Course at Derby University in 2009/10 after he retired. Over the years Graham has made thrown and handbuilt work using white and red earthenware, oxidised and reduced stoneware and porcelain. His work includes garden containers and sculptures, domestic and cooking items, decorative vases, bowls and wall hangings for the home. He has recently returned to making handbuilt items in white and coloured porcelain and is experimenting with ceramic and glass work.
