Artist Statement

It's good to be doing DOArts again after taking a break last year due to having a hysterectomy. While recovering I have made patchwork cushion covers using upholstery fabrics mostly found in charity shops. I've enjoyed the designing and colour placement of pieces.

I trained in printed textile design and worked in the industry, including designing bedwear for Dorma, before going freelance.

Now I have become a potter, painter and patchworker!

My pottery has developed since 2001 when I learnt to throw at adult ed. Working in stoneware combining recycled glass is my main interest and makes each piece unique. Nature inspires the decoration and form of my work, which includes bowls, wall plaques and now garden sculptures. As glass reminds me of water I am continuing to make bowls based on what floats on it and surrounds it.

My watercolour landscape paintings explore the division of space between the sky and the land or sea, the fields, trees and moorland and the everchanging light and colour throughout the seasons. I have been painting outside in the landscape instead of working from photographs in the studio. This has freed me up. An example of this is 'Angle Beach' shown above.

My work can be seen at 'The Gallery', 12 High Street, New Mills SK22 4ALĀ  Facebook page- www.facebook.com/newmillsgallery
