Artist Statement
Pet Portraits - I work from your favourite photograph and produce a memorable piece in either graphite, coloured or pastel pencils. I work to any size of portrait starting at A4. My drawings take a while to complete as I take time to capture the character of the pet with attention to detail. Each portrait is presented in an excellent quality mount, with backboard and protective sleeve. The reference photograph needs to be of good quality showing all of the pet’s face.
My animal portraits are produced (where possible) from my own photographs of the animals around me. I love farm animals especially the Highland Cows at Baslow Edge. I’m lucky to live in the Peak District and to be surrounded by wonderful animals. I take photographs of animals where ever I can so I have lots of reference. I like to capture animals from different angles to get a different type of drawing.
My drawings start out from a pencil sketch capturing as much of the detail as I can before I start to add the finer detail. There are so many layers to my drawings to capture the tone and fur detail. It’s great when the drawing is finished and I can send it out for approval to my customer.
Alongside my drawings I have ventured out into producing mugs, coasters and tea towels using my drawings.
