Artist Statement
Collage landscapes with the richness of a photograph, yet created from a blend of many incongruous magazine fragments. Full of rich colour and fine detail, cuttings are combined in a surreal and playful way to create believable landscapes which reveal hidden secrets close-up.
Giles came to magazine collage landscapes from a long career as a graphic designer – often commissioning artwork and photography. When the industry switched to web-based graphics, he jumped ship in favour of working with his hands – a second childhood if you like – cutting and sticking once more, but twice as much fun! Giles enjoys working from his garden studio, and is a member of Peak District Artisans
Featured on BBC One's 'Home is where the Art is' in 2019*, Giles is really excited to be exhibiting for the first time with his colleague from the show, Maisie Baker. Also, exhibiting with us for the first time will be Reuben Hawthorn with his powerful bold celebrity portraits. This promises to be a vibrant exhibition in a fantastic intimate venue in the heart of Derby.
*look out for series 2 of 'Home is where the Art is' on BBC One, Spring 2020!
