Artist Statement
I am a Buxton-based artist and studied art in Chesterfield, Chichester and London. My main aim is to create a fusion of figurative and abstract styles and subjects. I work in a variety of media, often together: colour pencils, marker pens, acrylics, gouache and watercolour. My landscapes are inspired by my photographs of the local woodland which form the basis for figurative and more abstracted drawings. Natural forms, such as leaves, trees and flowers, feature strongly in my work as do geometric designs and repeating patterns. My work is influenced by many art styles and movements: islamic and celtic artwork, russian constructivism, italian futurism, cubism, art nouveau, art deco and british 20th century landscape painting, design and illustration.
