Artist Statement
David graduated with a degree in Design and began his art career as an archaeological illustrator drawing textile mills for publications, the techniques of which resurfaced years later when he took an active role in the world of Urban Sketching where he was given the chance to teach sketching techniques both here and abroad. He works predominantly in gouache and ink, often adding collage to add both texture and depth. Mark making plays a massive part in his technique and he often uses materials and found objects to make the marks on the page. He prefers to work outdoors when possible "en plein air" which can make for some interesting mark making opportunities, especially if it rains.
