Artist Statement

Gilly Gostick

Throughout my life I have regularly drawn and painted and enjoyed being creative, but since retiring I have become more focussed, and have been able to devote more time and energy to making art.

Taking part in local art groups and workshops led by established artists, has given me new, exciting opportunities to develop my skills and ideas.

I am particularly inspired by aspects of the natural world and local surroundings in New Mills and the Peak District.

I enjoy being outside experiencing the seasons and different weather, observing the shifts in light and colour, and sometimes witnessing special moments of contact with wild creatures in their own environment.

Images and ideas I want to explore in my art often capture my attention when I am out walking, gardening at home, working on my allotment, or going about my daily life.

My art work is essentially representational and figurative, and I enjoy working in a variety of different media, including acrylic, pastel, pen and ink, watercolour and mixed media. Most recently I have also started to explore some ideas through collage and printmaking.

I am looking forward to taking part in Derbyshire Open Arts for the first time, and I am pledging to donate the proceeds after costs of any of my sales to Blythe House Hospice, to support their ongoing work.
